"Southern Village Hotel Plan Shelved" - News & Observer

What about coming up with a great plan to replace some of the rental houses out on 15-501 with even more affordable housing, integrate that real estate with Southern Village and include a hotel there? It would improve the street (15-501) presence for Southern Village, retain lower cost housing opportunities, add the hotel and the commerce it may represent. Has that idea been considered?

Eyesores?

Every time I drive behind the 300 Market Street building, I am struck by how ugly the trash receptacles are back there. Why cannot they be screened in some way? What other eyesores should we try to address in Southern Village?

Safety issues in Southern Village

What are the worst safety hazards in Southern Village today? I noticed in pulling out of the parking lot of one of the Market Street buildings (300) that visibility is quite limited because of a hedge. What are the safety hazards more or as serious as that one?

Swimmers

Were those tadpoles or fish yesterday holding their own swimming against the current in the stream near one of the bridges along the trail running north from Southern Village?

More on disc golf.

More pedestrian protection

Also at Southern Community Park are very bright yellow stripes - much larger than I have seen elsewhere - marking pedestrian crossings in the parking lot.

Why shouldn't we ask to have the same thing installed all over Southern Village?

Protecting pedestrians

I noticed at Southern Community Park that they seem to have installed concrete blocks at the front of those parking spaces that are close to a sidewalk. Perhaps this is a new construction standard.

It makes me wonder whether we don't have other places in Southern Village where such addded protection against automobiles might be in order? For example, all along the side of Market Street where the Lumina and Weaver Street Market are located?

We should all ask how this kind of situation might be addressed here in Southern Village before we have to address it. Treyburn is another DR BRYAN project.
